Inter Milan, the defending Serie A champions, has continued to show how good they can be in the Super Cup after a 2-0 win against league leaders Atalanta in the Italian Super Cup semi-finals.
The two goals were scored by Inter star Denzel Dumfries in the second half. Denzel Dumfries scored the first goal through a nice overhead kick and scored the second goal to crown the victory with a long-range kick on a counterattack.
Marco Carnesecchi, Atalanta’s goalkeeper, made several key saves despite a lot of chances created in the early minutes of the game to keep the match close in the first half.
Atalanta started the game without playing their key players, including Ederson, Ademola Lookman, and Charles De Ketelaere, who later came in around the hour mark as substitutes. Ederson scored a goal that was ruled out after a VAR check for offside.
Inter Milan now records a seven-straight win against Atalanta, including securing two 4-0 victories last year in Serie A.
Inter Milan is now in the race to win its fourth straight Super Cup title, with the final scheduled to be played in Saudi Arabia on Monday. Inter Milan comes after Atalanta and Napoli by just one point in Serie A but holds a game in hand.
