Jessica Aber, a former federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of Virginia was found dead in her home on Saturday morning. She was 43 years old.
Investigators have been looking into the incident but they are yet to determine a cause of death.
When officers with the Alexandria Police Department received a 911 call about an unresponsive woman, they drove straight to the location and found Jessica Aber. They could not tell immediately if that was her house or someone else’s. It also did not look like the house was broken into, or there was a suspicion of foul play. However, she was taken to the Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.
Aber was seated as a federal prosecutor for Eastern Virginia when Joe Biden was president. However, she resigned when Trump began his second term.
The Virginia Attorney General’s office put out a statement and a tribute to the Kate prosecutor, and the work she did to bring peace to Eastern Virginia.
“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Jessica Aber, whose career of public service included US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and whose work with Ceasefire Virginia saved more lives than we may ever realize,” Virginia AG Jason Miyares wrote.
The current federal prosecutor for Eastern Virginia, Erik Surgery also put out a statement, paying tribute to Aber.
“We are heartbroken beyond words to learn of the passing of our friend and former colleague, U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber,” he wrote.
She was unmatched as a leader, mentor, and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a human being. We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all too brief time in this world.”
