A top federal prosecutor in New York and two in Washington have resigned after they refused to drop corruption charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams.
The Justice Department, represented by the acting U.S. Attorney General, Emil Above, had ordered them to drop the charges, but the prosecutor decided to resign to retain the integrity of an investigation they felt so strongly about.
The Attorney General’s office had argued that the charges against the major constrained his ability to stop illegal immigration into the state.
Danielle R. Sassoon was the top prosecutor from New York who was shocked when she was asked to drop the case.
“Adams’s attorneys repeatedly urged what amounted to a quid pro quo, indicating that Adams would be in a position to assist with Department’s enforcement priorities only if the indictment were dismissed,” Sassoon wrote.
“Mr. Bove admonished a member of my team who took notes during that meeting and directed the collection of those notes at the meeting’s conclusion.”
It seemed like Trump’s administration was trying to run the legal affairs of the country questionably. Thank God, there are still prosecutors who choose to uphold their integrity over anyone’s political ambition.
Trump, who announced that nothing gets done without his knowledge, claimed he knew nothing about the order from the acting U.S. Attorney General.
