Eintracht Frankfurt made a surprising 2-1 comeback in their last-16 first leg of the UEFA Europa League against Ajax, making it their second-ever home loss to German opposition.
Ajax started well as Brian Brobbey almost netted a goal just two minutes after the game started. Brobbey eventually scored a goal in the 10th minute of the game after he headed into the net a precise cross from Jordan Henderson.
Not too long later, Frankfurt revenged almost immediately as they almost equalized through Ansgar Knauff, but Hugo Larsson ended up firing into the net a good long-range shot after a well-calculated free-kick routine.
The two teams created chances before the end of the first half, with Kenneth Taylor and Larsson creating chances. Brobbey created a chance that was denied by Kevin Trapp as Ajax did well to reclaim the lead.
Frankfurt continued to increase pressure against Ajax into the half and ended up taking the lead in the 70th minute when Knauff created an assist that Ellyes Skhiri turned into a goal.
Ajax continued to push for a comeback despite multiple substitutions, giving Frankfurt the chance to take charge of the final stages and take a crucial advantage in the second leg to be held in Germany next week.
