St. Louis Police Didn't Help Man That Shot Himself Because Their Shift Was Almost Over

A recently released bodycam footage revealed that two cops did not help a suicidal man who shot himself in the head because their shift was almost over. The incident happened on September 10, 2023.

According to the video, both officers, identified as Austin Fraser and Ty Warren were sent to the scene – the Forest Park, after the victim, identified as Urayoan Rodriguez-Rivera, had called 911 to say he was going to commit suicide.

By the time the two officers arrived, the man had already shot himself in the head but was still alive and breathing.

“He ain’t dead, he’s alive”, one of the cops said before Fraser decided that they should simply cruise around and come back because their shift would be ending in 30 minutes. “We ain’t taking shit”, he said.

The video then continued with more officers who have arrived at the scene. They noted that the man was still alive and that the gun was missing. Fraser and Warren were there too and they stuck to their plan and allowed the other officers to take over the case while they subsequently left.

The 29-year-old suicide victim was rushed to the hospital where he died. His death came about 40 minutes after he made the emergency call.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department through its public affairs and information director Mitch McCoy said the two erring officers have since been fired. Warren’s license was revoked – effectively prohibiting him from practicing in the state again. He acknowledged that he made the “dumb” decision of giving in to Fraser’s pressure.

Fraser not only got his license revoked but was also scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday. The result of the trial will be made public in 30 days time.
