The first match for David Moyes as the head coach since his return to Everton was far from expected, as the team lost 1-0 on Wednesday to Aston Villa at Goodison Park.
The only goal in the match was scored in the second half by Ollie Watkins, which sends Aston Villa to the seventh position in the Premier League table and three points away from the top four, while Everton now sits in 16th place with only one point from the relegation area.
Moyes had previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, and he is back with the team after replacing Sean Dyche, who did not perform satisfactorily overseeing a team that went winless in five games.
Everton were unable to surprise the fans despite the hope in Moyes. Aston Villa stole the early domination with Morgan Rogers testing Jordan Pickford and James Tarkowski doing great in the defense area.
While the second half was ongoing, Ollie Watkins scored the rescue goal for Aston Villa, correcting the opportunity that he missed in the first half.
Everton is yet to recover from their attack struggles after scoring only seven open-play goals since the season started. The new coach is encountered with a difficult job to ensure that the team survives ahead of the club’s new stadium’s first game.
