Texas was put to a disappointing 22-19 overtime defeat by Georgia in the SEC championship game on Saturday, making it their second loss this season, both against the Bulldogs.
The defeat makes it impossible for the Longhorns (11-2) to get a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff.
Texas Head Coach remains confident despite the loss, claiming that the result does not change his belief in the squad. CFP is expected to make its final rankings available on Sunday as Texas is expected to drop from its No. 2 position as released last week.
Texas is also yet to record victories against any top-25 opponents, which could likely affect their seeding.
The team stood behind backup quarterback Gunner Stockton after starter Carson Beach left the squad due to a throwing-arm injury before the end of halftime.
The match was earlier dominated by Texas, with Quinn Ewers throwing for 358 yards and a touchdown, but he also committed two interceptions with the addition of taking six sacks. The Longhorns did not do well on the ground while they committed 11 penalties and managed only 31 rushing yards.
Texas will perform all that it can to become a feature in the national title, as it is now outside the top four seeds, with a first-round playoff game on Dec. 20 or 21. The coach still believes that his team will bounce back as they close their first season in the SEC.
