Norovirus epidemics are increasingly spreading across many parts of the United States this winter, as seen on data shared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The epidemic has sharply increased from the initial 69 cases reported in late November to 91 cases during the week of December 5.
The outbreaks this year are unusually high as against the previous years, which recorded a maximum of 65 cases recorded during early December.
Norovirus is usually regarded as the “stomach bug,” which results in diarrhea and sudden vomiting. It can easily be passed from one person to another person and spread rapidly in places where people are in close contact, including cruise ships, schools, nursing homes, and jails.
Medical professionals have advised that people should ensure safety measures while they disconnect surfaces to reduce the risk of infection and constant hand washing.
The increase in recorded cases shows the need for extra care and vigilance to ensure that it does not spread further.
