World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen withdraws from the World Rapid Chess Championship on Friday after objected to follow-up with the dress code of the tournament as reported by the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
Carlsen is a seven time World Blitz winner and a five time World Rapid champion. He was seen seen wearing jeans, which went against the tournament’s dress code.
Carlsen refused to change the attire despite been told to do so and pay fine of $200 by the Chief Arbiter.
International Chess Federation (FIDE) in their statement reported that Carlsen would not have been payed for round move but he could have got back to play in subsequent rounds if he was willing to do so.
He also discontinued from the World Blitz Championship that is shared to come after the tournament.
Carlsen took the decision to walk out of the competition with limited opportunities of defending his title because of an earlier poor performances as reported by Chess.com.
