Former Boxing World Title Holder Thierry Jacob Dies At Age 59

The world woke up to the rude shock of the death of an ex-boxing world titleholder, Thierry Jacob, who passing away at the age of 59 years old.

The death of Thierry Jacob was made known through an announcement that was shared on Facebook by the mayor of Calais, Natacha Bouchart. The post reads, “We begin this day with sad news. Thierry Jacob died overnight, so young.”

The former boxer was active during the 1980s and 90s; he later became the WBC super bantamweight champion.

Jacob won the WBC super bantamweight title in 1992, after beating Daniel Zaragoza from Mexico in front of his local supporters in Calais.

The former boxing world titleholder became a professional boxer in 1984 and was active for a decade in the sport. While he was in the sport, he recorded 39 victories and six defeats.

He earned the world champion title in 1992, losing his WBC title at his first defense when he fought against America Tracy Harris Patterson in New York.

He is survived by his sons, including Romain Jacob, who also is a professional boxer that won the European super featherweight title in 2014.
