Firefighters mobilized to Bryant Park’s Winter Village in New York City to put out the fire that erupted on Friday at one of the Christmas market stalls.
The fire erupted at the market shortly after 9 a.m. and sent this black smoke across the sky, obvious for people across the city to see. It happened near iconic landmarks such as the New York Public Library, Empire State Building, and Rockefeller Center.
The fire destroyed not less than four strands, with the fifth one sustaining damage. The videos that were shared on the Internet showed massive flames and smoke that went to the market, causing the security personnel around there to evacuate bystanders.
“Get out, get out, let’s go,” one of the security guards was heard shouting in one of the videos.
Officials of the Fire Department were also seen in the videos sifting the remains of the charred after the flames were extinguished. The footage was later shared by reporter Howard Weiss.
Authorities are yet to disclose the cause of the fire, but a warning has been issued by New York’s emergency management department for passersby to be aware of traffic delays and road closures in the area as investigations continue.
