Former NFL Star Jay Cutler Arrested in Tennessee on DUI and Weapons Charges Following Collision

Police arrested former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler after he crashed his car in Franklin, Tennessee, on Thursday evening, October 17. The 41-year-old is facing four charges, including drunk driving and having a gun while under the influence, as per reports from People.

Around 5 p.m., Cutler hit another car from behind in downtown Franklin. When police talked to him at the crash site, they quickly noticed signs of intoxication. According to the Franklin Police Department release,

“During their conversation with Cutler, officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol. Cutler was also slurring his words and had blood shot eyes.”

When officers asked Cutler to take sobriety tests, he said no. The police statement explained that “Cutler refused field sobriety tests and was taken to a local hospital where a blood sample was obtained through a blood search warrant.” ESPN reported that when they searched his car, police found two guns – one of them loaded.

According to CBS Chicago, before the police were notified, Jay Cutler had asked the other driver not to report the incident and had even offered to pay him about $2000. The father of three would later spend a few hours in Williamson County Jail before paying his $5,000 bond and leaving just before 10 p.m. He hasn’t said anything publicly about what happened.

Meanwhile, Cutler’s former wife, TV personality Kristin Cavallari, recently mentioned that there have been changes, which she didn’t specify, in how they share time with their kids. Speaking on her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast, she said, “When I was dating last fall, I was still doing split custody with my ex and I had every other week off from my kids,” adding that “that’s changed.”

While they were processing their divorce in 2020, Cavallari claimed in the filing that Cutler had been guilty of “inappropriate marital conduct” and that the two of them living together would be “unsafe and improper.”

Before retiring, Jay Cutler had a successful 12-year NFL career. He started with the Denver Broncos in 2006 as their first-round draft pick. His biggest impact came with the Chicago Bears, where he set team records and became their “all-time leading passer with 23,443 yards and 154 touchdowns,” according to ESPN. He retired in 2017 after playing with the Miami Dolphins. In total, Cutler threw for more than 35,000 yards and had 227 touchdowns.
