Human remains discovered in a freezer on January 12 in Grand Junction, Colorado, have been identified as those of Amanda Overstreet, a teenager who vanished nearly two decades ago. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office revealed in a statement on Friday that the dismembered body parts belonged to the 16-year-old daughter of the previous homeowner.
The gruesome discovery was made earlier this year when the new owners of a property on Pinyon Avenue offered a freezer left behind by the previous occupants for free. An unsuspecting individual who came to collect the appliance found a human head and forearms with hands still attached inside it. Authorities were immediately alerted and this set in motion an investigation that would unravel a mystery spanning almost 18 years.
Amanda Overstreet was last seen or heard from in April 2005, but strangely, there is no record of her ever being reported missing. This very puzzling detail raised questions about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and the actions of those who knew her.
