Early Tuesday morning, many commuters who were heading into New York City through the Lincoln Tunnel were delayed for more than an hour.
According to the Port Authority, this was due to an investigation into a crash that occurred at around 4:00 a.m. in the Tunnel’s Central Tube. A motorcyclist was injured and has been taken to the hospital for treatment. Only the injured individual was involved in the accident.
The incident at Lincoln Tunnel also affected other routes like Holland Tunnel which experienced close to a 60-minute delay. George Washington Bridge also experienced the same but only on the upper level. The lower level is reported to have lasted for about 45 minutes. New Jersey Transit train service, which has since resumed activities properly, also faced a one-hour delay due to a problem with the Amtrak overhead wires. People couldn’t get in and out of New York Penn Station as of 10:00 a.m.
Commuters were directed to use the North and South tubes, but even that failed to reduce traffic as more complications arose. A photo shared by Dan Mannarino of PIX11 on X revealed that a bus had broken down in the South tube.
Although the Lincoln Tunnel’s Central Tube reopened hours later, residual delays are still expected to occur.
