A member of the Republican Party and former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., refused to align with his party’s presidential candidate, former president Donald Trump, as he delivered a prime-time speech that supports the candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Kinzinger claimed on the stage that he was forming an “awkward alliance” with Democrats but told the public that his decision was to “defend truth, democracy, and decency.”
“Vote for our bedrock values and vote for Kamala Harris,” Kinzinger said. He added that he was making this endorsement despite having policy disagreements with Harris.
“Whatever policies we disagree on pale in comparison with those fundamentals matters of principle, of decency, and of fidelity to this nation,” he said.
Harris and former Biden campaigns have been all out seeking support from moderate Republicans and independents who did not agree with Donald Trump’s leadership when he served as president.
The former Rep member and some members of the Republican Party have formed an alliance under the umbrella of “Republicans for Harris,” an online rally that was held recently to prove their support for Harris.
Kinzinger told those who cared to listen that he no longer has faith in Trump and felt “profound sorrow” after the issue that happened on January 6 at the Capitol.
“Donald Trump is a weak man pretending to be strong. He is a small man pretending to be big. He is a faithless man pretending to be righteous. He’s a perpetrator who can’t stop playing the victim,” he said.
