FK Bodo/Glimt’s effort put an end to the 26-game unbeaten streak by Olympiacos with a commanding 3-0 win, helping to push ahead of the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.
Olympiacos had recorded victories in seven of their last home European games this season but found it difficult to tear the possession-taking Norwegian hosts apart.
The first goal was recorded for Bodo/Glimt in the eighth minute, giving them an early lead when a header by Jostein Gundersen hit the goalpost and bounced in off Olympiacos’ goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.
Roman Yaremchuk created double opportunities for his side Olympiacos, but his efforts were denied by Nikita Haikin.
Kasper Hogh missed a near chance before the end of the first half but corrected his error moments after, netting home Ole Didrik Blomberg’s cross to give his team another goal, which doubled their lead.
Bodo/Glimt did not stop performing excellently after the start of the second half, and Hogh scored their last goal through an assist created by Fredrik Andre.
Olympiacos did not give up; they mounted pressure but were stretched by a strong Bodo/Glimt defense, which included Fredrik Sjovold’s brilliant last-ditch tackle.
The Greek side will have a greater job to do in the second half, with a need to perform a remarkable comeback to ensure that their European hopes live.
