Gustav Isaksen scored a late-minute goal that sealed Lazio’s 2-1 victory against Viktoria Plzen in their UEFA Europa League last-16 first leg. The goal was scored in the 98th minute, and the team emerged the winner despite being reduced to nine players.
The win makes Lazio the second club in 18 matches to earn victory in this competition at the Doosan Arena.
Viktoria Plzen had an early opportunity that went inside the net through a well-calculated shot from Pavel Sulc, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR check for offside. Not too long later, Lazio picked up form with Alessio Romagnoli, who converted a header from Tijjani Noslin at the back post.
Lazio, who was the visitor in the game, took possession but could not make much of it due to a strong defense from Plzen.
The home side, Viktoria Plzen, recorded an equalizer in the early minutes of the start of the second half through Nigerian Rafiu Durosinmi, who headed into the opposition’s net a free kick from Lukas Kalvach. Viktoria Plzen did not give up as they continued to push for victory and earned an advantage when a red card was shown in the 77th minute to Nicolo Rovella.
Lazio players were then reduced to move after Samuel Gigot’s late dismissal, but Isaksen fired into the net at stoppage time to secure a needed win while both teams await a second leg in Rome.
