Amanda Gorman presented a wonderfully made poem to honor Vice President Kamala Harris at the DNC, alongside performances that were delivered by legends Stevie Wonder and Kenan Thompson.

“We are one family regardless of religion, class or color. For what defines a patriot is not just a love of liberty but our love for one another. This is loud in our country’s call because while we all love freedom, it is love that frees us all,” she smiled. The poet and activist commanded the arena in a periwinkle caped dress and was interrupted by applause many times while reciting.

“Let us not just believe in the American dream, let us be worthy of it.”

Gorman spoke of the “audacity of hope” and was strong on the importance of voting in the coming November election, aligning with the night’s theme of freedom.

Gorman came into national recognition in 2017 when she emerged as the inaugural National Youth Poet Laureate during her time as a student at Harvard University.

Gorman also broke a record for herself in 2021 when, when she was just 22 years old, she delivered her poem “The Hill We Climb” at the current President, Joe Biden’s, inauguration in Washington, D.C.

Gorman has published three poetry books for young readers since her last time in Washington, D.C., performed at Carnegie Hall, and also spoke at the United Nations, where she addressed global hunger and poverty.

The poem that Gorman gave at the 2024 DNC marks her first display on this convention stage.
