President Joe Biden has overcome his recent bout with COVID-19 and is preparing to address the American public about significant changes in his political trajectory. The White House medical team, led by Dr. Kevin O’Connor, has confirmed that the President’s health has improved markedly since his positive test last week.
According to official statements, Biden’s recovery was smooth, with no fever reported throughout the course of his illness. The President underwent a full regimen of the antiviral medication Paxlovid, which appears to have been effective in managing his symptoms.
Biden had announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race just days ago. It is presumed that he gave in to the demands of the Democratic Party, who were concerned about his chances against former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee. He is now scheduled to deliver an address to the nation from the Oval Office on Wednesday evening at 8 PM ET.
Furthermore, in a show of party unity, Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who has declared her intention to pursue the Democratic nomination for president. The president demonstrated his support by calling into Harris’s campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, urging staff to give their full effort to her campaign.
“If I didn’t have COVID, I’d be standing there with you,” Biden said during the call, his voice sounding slightly hoarse.
Joe Biden is expected to return to the White House on Tuesday afternoon. His schedule includes a planned meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, as well as a meeting with families of Americans still held hostage in Gaza.
The president expressed his commitment to ongoing diplomatic efforts, stating,
“We’re going to keep working to an end to the war in Gaza. I’ll be working really closely with the Israelis and with the Palestinians to try to work out how we can get the Gaza war to end, and Middle East peace, and get all those hostages home. I think we’re on the verge of being able to do that.”
