NFL Suspends Steelers’ Cameron Sutton for Eight Games Following Domestic Violence Incident

The National Football League (NFL) has handed down an eight-game suspension without pay to Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cameron Sutton for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy. This disciplinary action comes in the wake of a domestic violence incident that occurred earlier this year.

Sutton, 29, turned himself in to Florida authorities on March 31, following a warrant issued for his arrest on charges of domestic battery by strangulation. The incident, which took place at Sutton’s home in Lutz, Florida, on March 7, reportedly involved a “verbal altercation turned physical,” leaving the female victim with visible injuries.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister commented on Cameron Sutton’s surrender, stating,

“After weeks of evading law enforcement, this man has finally made the right choice to turn himself in. Domestic violence has no place in our community, and no one is above the law here in Hillsborough County.”

The NFL’s investigation into the matter concluded that Sutton had indeed violated its Personal Conduct Policy. As a result, he will be ineligible to play for the first half of the 2024 regular season, with his potential reinstatement set for October 29.

This suspension carries significant financial implications for Sutton. Beyond the immediate loss of eight game checks, totaling approximately $537,777, the incident has already cost him considerably more. The Detroit Lions, his former team, voided his $10.5 million guaranteed salary for 2024 and released him immediately after learning of the arrest warrant.

Cameron Sutton, who was drafted by the Steelers in 2017 and played for them through 2022, had signed a one-year deal to return to Pittsburgh in June 2024. This suspension, however, will sideline him for nearly half of the upcoming season, impacting both his on-field contributions and financial earnings.
