The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Cam Sutton, a star for the Detroit Lions, in connection with a domestic battery incident in Lutz, Florida, located close to Tampa.
According to Phil Martello, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to reports of domestic violence involving the player, Sutton, 29, and a female on March 7 at approximately 5 a.m.
Martello cleared the air that the victim sustained injuries consistent with the reported altercation, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant for the player on the same day. The sheriff’s office has since appealed to the public for information on Sutton’s whereabouts, noting that he may be driving a Jeep Grand Wagoneer, providing the license plate number.
While court records indicate recent legal proceedings related to a paternity case involving Sutton and Kortnee Alexander, further details were not immediately in public as Alexander’s attorney did not respond to questions for comment. Similarly, Sutton’s attorney, Jason Setchen, could not be reached for comment.
Sutton, who signed a lucrative three-year contract with Detroit Lions last offseason, had a challenging debut season with the team, struggling particularly in matchups against top-tier receivers. The Lions have since made moves to strengthen their secondary, including trading for Carlton Davis III and signing Amik Robertson in free agency.
Despite the ongoing legal situation, Sutton is slated to earn $10.5 million for the upcoming season, with a significant cap hit of $12.68 million for this year.
