Neil Gaiman, the renowned author of “Good Omens” and “The Sandman,” is facing serious allegations of sexual assault from two women. These claims, spanning two decades, are the subject of a four-part podcast series investigation titled “Master: the allegations against Neil Gaiman” by Tortoise.

It features accounts from two women who were in their early twenties when the alleged incidents occurred. Both describe entering consensual relationships with Gaiman but claim these interactions later involved non-consensual acts.

One accuser, identified as Scarlett, alleges an assault in 2022 after Gaiman hired her as a nanny. She claims Gaiman engaged in “rough and degrading penetrative sexual acts with her.” The other woman, known only as K., alleges her experiences with Gaiman began in the early 2000s. She claims Gaiman sometimes subjected her to painful sex “she neither wanted nor enjoyed.”

Neil Gaiman, now 63, strongly denies all allegations. Regarding Scarlett’s claims, he insists the relationship was consensual, brief, and limited in nature. He has called K.’s allegations “disturbing” and denies them entirely. The podcast producers note that Gaiman believes the allegations may stem from other factors. They state,

“Tortoise understands that he believes K’s allegations are motivated by her regret over their relationship and that Scarlett was suffering from a condition associated with false memories.” However, they assert this claim “is not supported by her medical records and medical history.”

Gaiman has pointed to the response of New Zealand authorities as evidence of the claims’ weakness, stating they did not accept his offer to assist with the 2022 investigation. However, authorities told Tortoise that their “efforts remain ongoing.”
