Over 2,000 lbs. of frozen ready-to-eat chicken is being recalled due to potential listeria contamination.
Routine testing by the USDA revealed that Al-Safa Halal chicken products might be contaminated with listeria.
While no illnesses have been reported, the USDA’s food safety and inspection service advises that the recalled chicken should not be consumed.
The affected products were produced in Canada and imported to retail stores across the United States in June.
The recalled chicken products include:
- 12.1-oz. cardboard box package containing “Al Safa Halal Charcoal Grilled Chicken Seekh Kebab Grilled, Minced, Chicken Patty Kebab” with “NOV 30 25” and “0605404” printed on a sticker on the outside of the package.
- 14.11-oz. cardboard box package containing “Al Safa Halal Fully Cooked Chicken Chapli Kebab Seasoned Chicken Patty” with “NOV 30 25” and “0605416” printed on a sticker on the outside of the package.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These items should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
Listeria contamination can lead to a serious infection, primarily affecting older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns.
Anyone concerned about potential illness should contact a healthcare provider.
