Tyler The Creator has announced his withdrawal from two of this summer’s most anticipated music events. The Grammy-winning rapper was slated to headline both Lollapalooza in Chicago and Outside Lands in San Francisco but has now canceled these appearances.
He shared the news via social media, expressing regret over disappointing fans who were looking forward to his performances.
“I hate saying this but I have to cancel Lollapalooza and Outside Lands,” he wrote, adding, “That is not sexy at all. Please please forgive me or call me names when you see me in person.”
Festival organizers have also acted swiftly to address the sudden change. Lollapalooza has tapped Megan Thee Stallion to fill Tyler’s headlining slot on August 1st, while Outside Lands has enlisted rising pop star Sabrina Carpenter to top their bill for the event running August 9-11.
This cancellation comes as a particular blow to fans, as Tyler was positioned as a marquee act for both festivals. He was set to co-headline Lollapalooza’s opening night alongside Hozier, and at Outside Lands, his name topped a star-studded lineup including The Killers and The Postal Service.
The artist’s withdrawal is especially noteworthy given his recent high-profile performances. Just months ago, Tyler The Creator delivered a critically acclaimed set at Coachella, where he brought out surprise guests including Childish Gambino and A$AP Rocky. His last appearances at Lollapalooza and Outside Lands in 2021 were in support of his album “Call Me if You Get Lost,” which he recently expanded with “The Estate Sale” edition.
While Tyler The Creator hasn’t provided specifics about the commitment forcing these cancellations, his upcoming schedule still includes a headlining spot at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October.
