On Saturday, the 31-year-old singer and actress treated her Instagram followers to a series of makeup-free snapshots.
Captioning a black-and-white close-up with “Real,” Gomez showcased her bare face, with her hair cascading down and her freckles visible on the bridge of her nose.
Her genuine portrayal garnered praise from a slew of famous friends in the comments section. Bestie Nicola Peltz Beckham, 29, celebrated her natural allure, commenting, “You’re so beautiful 💖💖💖.”
Lily Collins chimed in, calling her “Real stunning inside and out,” while Camila Cabello playfully joked, “Good god woman have mercy.”
Maintaining the candid vibe, Gomez continued on her Instagram Story, sharing a selfie of herself pulling a funny face, with one eye closed and sporting an unstyled hairdo and a gray robe.
In addition to her candid photos, the Rare Beauty founder has been transparent about her struggles with self-esteem. At a SXSW panel titled “Mindfulness Over Perfection: Getting Real On Mental Health” in early March, Gomez reflected on how watching her 2022 Apple TV+ documentary “My Mind & Me,” which focused on mental health, prompted her to be kinder to herself.
“It makes me sick to hear the things that I was saying about myself in the beginning. It bums me out,” the Only Murders in the Building star said at the event, which was also attended by her mom and Wondermind co-founder Mandy Teefey.
“It’s important to speak to yourself with kindness, but I don’t think I really understood that [at the start of the film],” she continued.
Gomez and Teefy, 47, conceptualized Wondermind, an online mental health community, early in the star’s career. They officially launched the company in December 2021 to provide individuals with a safe digital space to discuss their mental health challenges.
