Taylor Swift’s just-released 11th studio album The Tortured Poets Department is making waves, especially with her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. The 31 song record finds the pop superstar mining painful chapters from her past relationships for creative inspiration.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Alwyn has now listened to the brutally candid album and is “slightly disappointed” by Swift’s alleged portrayals of their six-year romance and eventual 2023 breakup. A source close to the British actor claims he’s “not surprised” by the revelations.

However, the insider maintains Joe Alwyn is focused on promoting his upcoming film projects and has “moved on,” holding “no grudges” against his Grammy-winning ex for producing the art she’s known for. He reportedly has no plans to publicly address the album’s personal shots, especially when it isn’t clear that any of the songs released was about him.

Fans do believe that on tracks like “So Long, London” and “Fresh Out the Slammer,” Taylor Swift appears to vent her frustrations with feeling isolated and stunted by the low-key relationship. “I’m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free,” she sings pointedly.

While the popstar may have been careful not to outright “defame” him, the lyrics seem to simply carry Swift’s intention to fully shut the book on her past hurtful relationships. As she wrote on her Instagram page upon the album’s release,

“This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.”

Whether Joe Alwyn agrees with that assessment or not, it’s clear the two have entered very different chapters following their split.
