Rap Star, Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after the prosecution proved that he did carry the firearm that shot Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
According to revelations during the trial, Lanez shot Megan after he, Megan, and her friend Kelsey Harris, got into an argument in the car, on their way back from a Hollywood party.
The sentencing follows Lanez’s conviction in December for assault with a semiautomatic firearm, discharging a firearm with gross negligence, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
On Monday, Megan Thee Stallion testified in court that the shooting had left her shattered. “Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” she said in a written statement that was read in court. “Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”
Tory’s attorneys had asked for him to be given probation or three years in prison, and mandatory rehab, including for alcohol addiction.
But the prosecution disagreed, demanding 13 years in prison for the physical and emotional damage he caused to Megan Thee Stallion.
Judge David Herriford, the Los Angeles judge in charge of the case said he had received more than 70 letters on Lanez’s behalf, including from his celebrity friends.
One was from musician Iggy Azalea, whom he said had requested a sentence that was “transformational, not life-destroying.”
Tory spoke in court for the first time on Tuesday. According to him, he still cared about Megan. “I said some very immature things that I shouldn’t have said. I revealed some secrets I shouldn’t have revealed.”
Lanez has been held in the county jail since his conviction in December.
