Victor Wembanyama, who is expected to be taken by San Antonio with the first pick in the NBA draft this week, threw out a wild ceremonial first pitch before the New York Yankees played against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.
Victor Wembanyama appeared wearing a pinstriped jersey with “New York” written across the chest rather than the traditional interlocking “NY,” with Joe DiMaggio’s No. 5 on the back.
The 19-year-old seven-foot-plus tall basketballer threw the ball in the dirt, well wide of the plate to the first-base side despite his practice with the Yankees players, qualifying him for a spot in the Hall of Fame of worst ceremonial first pitches.
Victor Wembanyama had told YES Network Yankees reporter Meredith Marakovitsbefore the opening ceremony that he was confident in throwing out the pitch. He also said he likes watching baseball.
