Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his father, former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes, shared a beautiful moment after Sunday’s Super Bowl game.
Mahomes led the Chiefs to a thrilling Super Bowl 57 victory over the favored Philadelphia Eagles by a final score of 38-35 thanks to a last-second Harrison Butker field goal. With the victory, the Chiefs won their second Super Bowl title in four years — placing them one step closer to becoming the first true NFL dynasty in the post Tom Brady-Bill Belichick New England Patriots’ era.
After leading his team to football’s ultimate prize, Mahomes and his father shared a heartwarming hug on the State Farm Stadium field. The official NFL Twitter account shared the moving moment.

He made one start in his rookie 2017 season, learning behind veteran star Alex Smith. In his five seasons as the starter, the Chiefs have played in five AFC Championship Games at Arrowhead Stadium.
Kansas City has won three of those games, with the two losses coming in overtime. To think that Mahomes is a couple of bounces away from having played in FIVE straight Super Bowls? Indeed, we are witnessing special history before our eyes.
Aside from Super Bowl MVP honors, Mahomes also took home the 2022 regular season MVP award — the second of his career. Incredibly, the 27-year-old became the first player to win both regular season MVP honors and the Super Bowl in the same season since Kurt Warner reached the feat for the St. Louis Rams in 1999.
Earlier this season, Mahomes became the fastest quarterback to reach 20,000 career passing yards — two years after he became the fastest quarterback to throw 100 touchdowns.
The now-retired Tom Brady is the consensus GOAT (greatest of all time) with seven Super Bowl rings, five Super Bowl MVP awards, three league MVP awards and practically every meaningful passing record (including touchdowns, yards and completions).
But if there’s an active quarterback who can dethrone Brady as the consensus GOAT, it’s Mahomes. We truly haven’t seen a quarterback of his skill set accomplish so much over a five-year span.
Winning seven Super Bowl rings is a LOT easier said than done. But with advancements and greater knowledge in science, technology, special diets and workout programs, Mahomes can follow the footsteps of Brady and play well into his mid-40s. So who says he can’t win five more rings over another decade and a half? Or longer?
And the best part if you’re Mahomes? He’s not even close to being done. The Chiefs have football’s best GM in Brett Veach, a future Hall of Famer in head coach Andy Reid and a ridiculous set of stars to complement Mahomes’ stardom.
All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce will be 34 years of age next season, but he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. In year one without Tyreek Hill as his main receiver, Mahomes showed his ability to work with just about anybody. Even when Kelce is gone, Mahomes will continue to be in that upper tier of NFL quarterbacks.
Mahomes would likely be a Hall of Famer if he retired from the NFL today. But unfortunately for 31 other teams, the new face of the NFL is just 27 years of age and only in the early stages of the Chiefs’ budding dynasty.
Whether you’re a Chiefs fan or not, you should simply just sit back and enjoy the historic greatness that’s unfolding in our eyes. Mahomes is a special talent that the game has never seen before.
