On October 20, just before midnight, a container ship flying the flag of Singapore lost power off the coast of New South Wales, Australia.

The disabled box ship Rio Madeira, which was traveling from Singapore with 27 crew members on board, was in need of towing assistance, according to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), which said it tasked the specialized emergency towing vessel ETV Svitzer Glenrock from Newcastle with the task.

On Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. local time, the Svitzer Glenrock arrived at the area of the stranded containership, which was located about 75 kilometers south of Narooma.

The Rio Madeira stated they had restored propulsion and were able to move forward under their own power before a tow hookup.

The ETV Svitzer Glenrock stood by and escorted the vessel until it berthed at Port Botany on Sunday afternoon.

Rio Madeira is a 286-meter-long, 5,905 TEU containership built in 2009. It is owned by A.P. Moller Singapore Pte. Ltd. and operated by Maersk Line AS.
