Is Elon Musk going to buy Man United?

elon-musk-man-united.

With his tweets, the world’s richest man has once more wrought havoc and controversy online. Elon Musk, the multibillionaire CEO of Tesla, announced late on Tuesday that he was purchasing Manchester United.

Musk stated that it was all a hoax few hours later, after numerous news items about his daring assertion had been written.

When asked about Musk’s tweet, a representative for Manchester United (MANU) told CNN Business that the team “we do not comment on rumors and speculation.”

Following the tweet, shares of Man United, which are traded on the New York Stock Exchange, originally rose after hours on Tuesday, but they then started to decline. However, the stock was still up roughly 3% in early Wednesday trading.

Forbes estimates that Manchester United is worth $4.6 billion. One of the biggest soccer clubs in the world, Manchester United is owned by the Glazer family, who also own the NFL team Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

However, the club hasn’t won the English Premier League since 2013.

Twitter has grown to be a significant component of Elon Musk’s personal brand during his 13 years on the social media site.

He uses it to discuss his business endeavors, rage at those he considers to be critics, comment on cryptocurrencies that affect the market, and occasionally share memes.

The tycoon’s remarks about Manchester United come as he attempts to get rid of the social media network he paid $44 billion for. He was sued by Twitter for attempting to break the agreement.
