Barcelona learned on Thursday that they have been assigned to the Group of Death in this year’s Champions League, alongside Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
If today’s events at Camp Nou are any indication, the Blaugrana are up to the task.
Barcelona thrashed newly promoted Real Valladolid 4-0, led by Robert Lewandowski‘s second-straight brace, and appears to be a genuine contender in both the Spanish top flight and the European tournament.
Lewandowski’s brace marks his first competitive goals at the Camp Nou, and all Barcelona attackers put on a show for the fans. The Polish talisman was backed by Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha, who both basked in glory at various points.
Raphinha provided exquisite crosses for multiple chances for Lewandowski, and he assisted on Barcelona’s first goal. Meanwhile, Dembele’s brilliantly threaded passes set up Pedri for the second goal and Lewandowski for the third.
Barcelona will play Sevilla in the league next weekend before beginning Champions League action against Viktoria Plzen on September 7. Meanwhile, Real Valladolid will play Almeria in La Liga next weekend in search of their first win of the season.
