US President Joe Biden made the unexpected admission that he has cancer, frightening the nation.
Biden stated, “That’s why I and so damn many other people I grew up with have cancer and why for the longest time Delaware had the highest cancer rate in the country,” in a speech about global warming where he discussed the negative effects of emissions from oil refineries close to his hometown of Somerset, Massachusetts.
RNC Research, a Twitter account run by the Republican National Committee, released the video there.
Although the comment didn’t appear serious, it caused a stir on social media after a video of it went viral. Many people questioned if the president was telling the truth or if he had made one of his infamous errors.
The White House stated before rumors could spread, stating that the 79-year-old president was referring to skin cancer treatment he had undergone before taking office in January last year.
Biden had “non-melanoma skin tumors” removed before taking office, according to a tweet from Washington Post columnist Glenn Kessler that was reposted by White House spokesman Andrew Bates.
He further criticized RNC Research for removing context from his comments to make it appear as though Biden had concealed the fact that he has cancer.
According to the New York Post, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s doctor, had last year released a health report that did not mention the president having any active cancers.
Instead of being exposed to chemicals employed by the oil sector, the research attributed Biden’s skin cancer to time spent in the sun.
The former lifeguard for a swimming pool, President Biden, “did spend a good bit of time in the sun in his youth,” O’Connor wrote of his patient, according to the US-based news source.
