Terrorist group, Boko haram, attacked Kuje prison, one of the largest and most fortified, located in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
Members of the terror organization were said to have stormed the prison facilities in the early hours of Wednesday, shooting and breaking barricades with bombs.
They reportedly freed prisoners, including many Boko Haram suspects, members, and officials been held captive.
The Boko Haram members were said to have carried out their operation which lasted for hours, without any resistance from the army and police. The prison security and other armed personnel on the ground were said to have fled the premises when the attack began.
However, unconfirmed reports say that Abba Kyari, former Deputy Commissioner of Police, who was also detained in the prison pending the conclusion of the investigation of his ties with popular internet fraudster Hushpuppi, as well some prominent persons reportedly refused to escape.
The Boko Haram attack on Kuje prison is coming shortly after Buhari‘s convoy was attacked on its way to Katsina state.
