According to various sources citing the official document, former gymnast Alina Kabaeva, who is reported to be romantically engaged with Russian President Vladimir Putin, is likely to be included in the European Union’s proposed sixth wave of sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
Until now, the EU has reportedly been reticent to include Kabaeva, believing that doing so will escalate tensions between Russia and the EU. The EU executive presented the measures to member states for ratification on Wednesday. To take effect, the 27 countries must agree unanimously.
