The NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, has announced in a statement, the death of famous basketballer, Bob Lanier at the age of 73 years old.

“For more than 30 years, Bob served as our global ambassador and as a special assistant to David Stern and then me, traveling the world to teach the game’s values and make a positive impact on young people everywhere. It was a labor of love for Bob, who was one of the kindest and most genuine people I have ever been around.”

Bob Lanier reportedly died after a brief illness. However, the star had reported that he was been treated for bladder cancer. An official report on his cause of death was yet to be released at this time.

Bob Lanier was honored at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992. He was the third on the Pistons’ career list in both points and rebounds and Detroit had him as their top shot in 1970.

He was well known for his shoe size, which according to him, can accommodate the feet of two people.

Bob also had a formidable height and weight; at 6 foot 10inches and 250 pounds respectively, he just could go unnoticed in the games.

However, his distinct body structure seemed to get him a lot of injuries during his career; his shoulder, back, elbow, hand, and toe.
