Solidarity chants resounded in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State on Wednesday, after supporters of Yoruba activist – Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, took to the streets to protest against the raid on his local residence.

In a move to curtail Igboho, the Department of State Services (DSS), had conducted a midnight raid last week Thursday, leaving bullet marks on his cars and properties and killing two of his associates in the process.

The activist had reportedly fled during the duel. However, thirteen of his guards and personnel were eventually paraded in Abuja that same day.

Wednesday’s protest had started in front of Igboho’s house in the Sooka residence of Ibadan; with one of its leading voices stating that there would be a march to the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji; and then to the Government House.

“It is a peaceful demonstration; we are marching there to demand the release of the detained persons. We are not afraid of teargas, we are marching to demand the rights of our people.

“We want them to bring the killers of Adogan and Alfa to book.

“The government must pay the N500m damages as requested by Igboho’s lawyer for the destruction of his house and property during the invasion.

“We want the Obas to make this happen within seven days,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, also came out recently to applaud the raid, stating categorically that this regime will put an end to any act by secessionists.
