North Korea wants to surpass China in the race for dog meat! Or how else will one explain their President, Kim Jong Un, mandating his citizens to give up their pet dogs to be used as food?

This came up in the light of strong food shortage in the country, and it is unclear whether the exact cause of the famine is attributed to the COVID-19 epidemic.

North Koreans are clearly not happy about this. The thought of eating meat is actually scary, as you might just end up eating your own pet dog! However, they keep mute as they fear their own leader.

North Korea is reported to have a negative history on pets. Some government faction regards them as an unnecessary waste of resources due to their high cost of maintenance.
