Juventus held Monaco to a subdued 0–0 draw on Wednesday in the Principality, a result that has moved the two sides to the playoffs of the Champions League despite the two teams ending the game with a point each.
Monaco moved on as unseeded opponents with qualification closer to the two teams; caution took over proceedings as Juventus snatched a seeded playoff position.
The start of the game was on the side of Monaco as they pressed hard and took early possession, but Mattia Perin, Juventus goalkeeper, was not really disturbed, dealing confidently with the efforts of the host side before the first 45 minutes of the game.
The pattern of the game did not change much as the second half began, as Monaco proceeded to take control of the game and search for a goal around the visitors’ penalty area.
However, the approach by Monaco did not have enough sharpness, and they were unable to make clear opportunities. The chances made by Monaco were few.
As the game continued, the urgency to break the lock faded.
The rhythm of the game was disrupted with frequent substitutions and stoppages, and with none of the team willing to take risks.
The game moved to a forgettable conclusion, and later witnessed a short push at the late minutes of the game from AS Monaco.
