Atletico Madrid grabbed a commanding 3-0 home victory against Mallorca to take a grip on third place in La Liga, with a total of eight points behind league leaders Barcelona.

Diego Simeone’s men took advantage when Real Madrid trashed Villarreal, moving only three points clear of the Yellow Submarine.

The first goal of the game was scored by Alexander Sorloth after 22 minutes after the game started firing in after a powerful shot from Marcos Llorente was saved but not held.

The goal marked Alexander Sorloth’s third goal in three league matches and his seventh since the season commenced, putting him on the same level with Julian Alvarez as Atletico’s top scorer.

Atletico scored the second goal of the game in the second half after David Lopez mistakenly fired into his own net a cross from Llorente.

The final goal of the game was fired into Mallorca’s net by Thiago Almada after he gently finished from a corner to make it a solid outing.
