Newcastle United, who are the Carabao Cup defending champions, have secured the next phase of the competition, which is the quarter-finals, after earning a 2-0 win at St. James’ Park against Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle United, which hosted Tottenham Hotspur, denied the latter from securing a slot in the Carabao quarter-finals, as the first goal was scored midway through the first half by Fabian Schar after he headed into Spurs’ net a corner from Sandro Tonali.
While the Tottenham side protested against the corner, claiming that it was taken too quickly, the goal stood.
Nick Woltemade fired a goal, making it a 2-goal lead and his sixth goal since the season started, after he headed a clear cross from Joe Willock as Antonin Kinsky, Tottenham’s goalkeeper, miscalculated the ball.
Tottenham almost had the opportunity of finding the back of Newcastle’s net when Pape Sarr got his first strike but was denied by Aaron Ramsdale through an incredible save, while an effort by Harvey Barnes hit the goalpost with a fine effort.
Newcastle did a well-calculated play to secure a spot in the last eight for a fourth consecutive season, where they will play against Fulham in the quarter-finals.
