Club Brugge rekindled their hopes in the Champions League play-off after a convincing 4-1 away win at Kairat Almaty.
The Belgian side took control after goals in the first half from Aleksandar Stankovic and skipper Hans Vanaken as the host did not do much to resist their visitors’ attempt.
Club Brugge continued their possession immediately the second half began as Romeo Vermant fired into their opponent’s net from a close distance before Brandon Mechele sealed the win with a header in a few minutes before the final whistle.
The host side finally got a jubilation when Adilet Sadybekov kicked a fine shot to earn a goal in the stoppage time, but it was not enough to overturn Brugge’s three points.
The victory pushes Brugge to seven points after playing seven games, putting them in a position to finish in the top-24, while the other side remains at the bottom with just a point, and their hope to continue has been dashed.
Brugge will now go back to practice as they will have Marseille to contend with on 28 January in a final group game, while Kairat conclude their European campaign against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
