Inter Milan kept their perfect start in the Champions League alive with a 4-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise. They’ve now won all three matches and haven’t let in a single goal.
The team really wanted to bounce back, and they played with a calm, sharp edge after last season’s tough 5-0 loss to PSG. Denzel Dumfries put the team ahead in the 41st minute, pouncing on a scramble in the box and firing home from close range. Just before halftime,
Lautaro Martinez made it 2-0 with a quick finish during a fast counterattack, beating the goalkeeper, Kjell Scherpen. It was a confident, well-organised performance from Inter.
Hakan Calhanoglu scored a confident penalty to make it 3-0 after a VAR check confirmed Kevin Mac Allister, brother of Liverpool’s Alexis, had handled the ball.
Later on, teenager Francesco Pio Esposito added the final goal, finishing off Ange-Yoan Bonny’s pass after missing an earlier chance.
Even though Union started strong and tested Yann Sommer with some good chances, forcing saves and a last-minute clearance from Martinez, Inter’s clinical finishing made the difference.
That victory puts Cristian Chivu’s team in second place in the league, tied on points with PSG and Arsenal. Next up, Inter will host Kairat Almaty on November 5, while Union will face Atletico Madrid a day earlier.
