Video: Lion Escapes From Owners Home, Attacks 3 People In Pakistan

A lion that was kept as a pet escaped from its owner’s home and attacked three people in Lahore, in the Punjab province of Pakistan.

The escape and attack were captured by a street surveillance camera. It showed the lion jump over the fence of its owner and immediately go for a woman on the street.

It took the woman down with one leap before running off to attack nearby kids when a man came and hit it. The woman was the mother of the two children it also attacked.

The lion was eventually captured, and the victims survived and were treated; their condition was reported as stable.

The owner of the pet lion was arrested by the police. Though it was legal to keep wild animals in Pakistan, it was not allowed to be kept within Lahore itself.

The owners who were reported to be three in number, did not have a license to keep the lion and also failed to house it securely. They had attempted to flee with the animal in a van before being arrested by the police

The owners were also reported not to have attempted to stop the lion when it went loose and was mauling the woman and children. They are liable to 7 years in prison or $17,500 fine.

A spokesman for the Lahore Police said the lion has been transferred to a wildlife center.

The incident started a clampdown on illegal ownership of big cats in Punjab. So far, 13 lions have been captured and 5 people arrested.
