The series-opener game between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers was delayed by rain at Citi Field during the third inning.
“Another wave of rain is expected at 8:35 p.m,” the statement said. “Stay tuned for more updates.”
The game began at exactly 4:10 p.m. PT/7:10 p.m. ET despite a light rain that drenched minutes then. The light rain which was expected to stop did not but intensified and caused disruption in the third inning.
The delay was expected to last around an hour, as seen in the announcement on the scoreboard in the stadium.
Clayton Kershaw, who starts for the Los Angeles Dodgers, may have his time in the game for shut after just two innings of the delay goes more than expected, likely going to put extra pressure on the bullpen that has already been heavily used.
The Dodgers had a good day in their first two innings when they threatened with runners scoring in stoppage time. Shohei Ohtani in second and Michael Conforto in third.
The delay occurred after a dramatic moment ensued in the game when Tyrone Taylor, an outfielder for the Mets, and Juan Soto collided as they tried to catch a fly ball hit by Mookie Betts.
