Manchester United surprised many with an outstanding performance in Bilbao after recording a 3-0 victory at San Mamés, a stadium also called “The Cathedral” against the Athletic Club.
Casemiro scored a nice goal while Bruno Fernandes added two with the addition of a penalty after a red card was shown to Dani Vivian, giving the Red Devils their place in the final of the Europa League, which is scheduled to be played in the same stadium.
It was a shocking night for Athletic, a team that had enjoyed an unbeaten run at home in Europe and almost did not concede goals until Manchester United met them and broke that record with a good game. Onana and Lindelöf secured Manchester United’s defense and Fernandes and Højlund played their roles in the victory.
Athletic had a good start, but it did not last, especially after the red card, while United were at their best during the game. The England team created a lot of opportunities, some that hit the woodwork, while Athletic Club could not match United.
The victory makes Manchester United the only team that has not been defeated in the competition and look very good to return to play in Bilbao again this month and may likely win the competition.
