If there is one thing South Carolina brought to their game on Sunday, it was their resilience. They beat their own odds and made the impossible possible.
They played against powerhouse Duke in an attempt to clinch their fifth straight NCAA final four. When it was starting to look like a bleak day for the national champions, one play changed everything.
The Gamecocks fought for their spot early into the match, putting out a good lead and also defending well against Duke.
There was no straight or predictable game anymore. It was a battle from start to finish. Nobody wanted to be left behind. Each team took the lead at different times. But it was narrow every time.
With only 29 seconds on the clock, South Carolina led by two points and Duke could make a play to tie the game. South Carolina’s Bree Hall had fouled Duke’s Ashlon Jackson and Duke had a chance to take the lead.
However, Jackson missed her three-pointer and that was it. In an attempt to stop the leaders from making more plays, Duke fouled star player Chloe Kitts and they paid dearly for it.
After the last second, South Carolina players and fans celebrated their hard-fought victory.
