The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, the CEO of SoftBank, Masayoshi Son, and the Chairman of Oracle, Larry Ellison, revealed on Tuesday that they will launch Stargate, which will be a groundbreaking AI infrastructure company.
The creation of the AI infrastructure company was unveiled at the White House alongside President Donald Trump. The project has been labelled as the “largest AI infrastructure project in history.”
The tech giants will begin the establishment of the project with a $100 billion investment, with plans to make it bigger and expand up to $500 billion in a few years to come while providing an additional 100,000 U.S. jobs.
The $100B AI Infrastructure Project, Stargate’s objective is to build the infrastructure for next-generation AI, which includes other nationwide data centres, with the first million-square-foot facility that is already under construction in Texas State.
The financial responsibility of the new project will be handled by SoftBank, while the operation will be controlled by OpenAI. One of the leading United States data centre operators, Oracle, reiterated that Stargate would secure the country’s leadership in AI, enhance national security, and boost the U.S. economy.
Altman and Softbank CEO had earlier talked about the investments in AI infrastructure to keep the country’s competitiveness against China. The OpenAI boss also talked about why the team needs to collaborate with the government to ensure that Americans benefit from it.
The newly sworn-in president, Donald Trump, has reversed an order regulating AI risks that was granted by former president Biden in 2023.
