David Lynch, a popular filmmaker in the United States who was popular for his surrealist masterpieces, including the cult classic series Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive is dead. He was aged 78.
The family of the late film producer announced his death via his official Facebook page. Lynch announced in August 2024 that he was battling emphysema, a chronic lung disease that stems from “many years of smoking.”
Lynch started as a visionary and maverick in the world of cinema; he bagged three Academy Award nominations for Best Director during his professional career, and he was also recognized for Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and The Elephant Man.
His colleague, Lara Flynn Boyle, who played the role of Donna Hayward in Twin Peaks, remembers the filmmaker as the “true Willy Wonka of filmmaking.” Flynn, in her statement to Deadline, stated, “I feel like I got the golden ticket getting a chance to work with him. He will be greatly missed.”
He was given the coveted Palme d’Or in 1990 at the Cannes Film Festival for Wild at Heart.
