Drake Maye, a quarterback rookie for the Patriots was taken off the field against the Charges after he sustained an injury from a helmet-to-helmet hit with defensive back Cam Hart.

The Patriots quarterback went overbound before he took the hit which was not penalized by officials.

The Chargers extended their winning to 7-0 not too long after with a great touchdown catch by Derius Davis. Jacoby Brissett, a Patriots backup quarterback came in as a substitute for the injured Maye on the next drive.

Maye appeared to have suffered a concussion. The head injury is the second he will be having this season. However, the Patriots have not made any official statement about ruling out the quarterback.

Drake Maye’s rookie season has been a good one since he took the starting time from Brissett but the constant head injuries is something to worry about for the Patriots and the quarterback. It is very uncertain if the Patriots will rush Maye back as the team is currently out of playoff contention and Maye’s long-term health is critical to the franchise’s future.

It all seems that the season may be ending for Maye as all signs suggest the team prioritizes his well-being and recovery and prepares for the next line of actions in their rebuilding efforts.
